Key Takeaways

• Harper’s late-rotation emergence has coincided with a spark in the Spurs’ offense, highlighting his ability to penetrate and create opportunities even when outside shooting falters.
• In a recent game against Oklahoma City, he contributed 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, illustrating his all-around impact and defensive steadiness.
• Harper now headlines a five-man unit with De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Victor Wembanyama, a lineup praised for playmaking and attacking potential despite spacing concerns.
• Devin Vassell has shifted to power forward, and his foul trouble against OKC raises questions about matchups and three-point shooting as he guards bigger players.
• The offense benefits from Harper serving as an attack-focused guard who can pressure defenses and reduce the need for post-ups around Wembanyama, potentially complicating opponents’ doubles.
• Last season’s effective duo of Harper and Wembanyama, particularly against reserve lineups, underlines Harper’s fit as a hybrid creator who blends Fox-like playmaking with Castle-like driving finishes.
• Going forward, the team will rely on Harper’s ability to push pace, transition opportunities, and perimeter shooting to sustain offensive pressure while ensuring Wembanyama remains difficult to double.
